Trio Beyond : Barbican, London 16.7.2006
John Scofield : Guitars
Larry Goldings : Hammond B3 and electric piano
Jack DeJohnette : Drums
This might be just an up grade for a lot of you but I like this gig so much I thought I’d post it anyway. The BBC broadcast this gig earlier this year and this is a nice, clear rip of it. Trio Beyond only played the one set that night so this is all there is. Great playing from everyone here especially from Jack who somehow seems to be getting even better as the years go by.
I saw a great Scof trio last year where he played an unprepared standards gig with Patitucci and Erskine but the recording was a mess so this was the next one in line I guess. I have a great Scof quintet featuring Seamus Blake to post tomorrow so I hope you’ll come by again and check that out too.
Set list
1. The Moontrane
2. Pegasus
3. Down Blue
4. Fall
5. Spectrum
6. Out of the City

thanks for this. I’ve never been a big Scofield fan (his sound more not the playing, but I’m swaying), but DeJohnette I love. And the Saudades disc is wonderful. Jack’s playing on that is astounding – you’re right, he somehow is getting better. his drumming on Seven Steps To Heaven is mind-numbing. Looking forward to hearing these different tracks. thanks

Appreciate this music. Sco and this group are most exploratory. Thanks for the exposure.

Unbelievable musicians. And a great set of instruments together. To some this group and set would be a miracle. I am in total agreement on the Jack comment. He hasn’t slowed down a bit.
