Joe Henderson Quartet : Lugano Jazz Festival 1994
Joe Henderson : Tenor Saxophone
Bheki Mseleku : Acoustic piano
George Mraz : Acoustic bass
Al Foster : Drums
Hope you enjoy this great session from one of the masters of the tenor saxophone. Killer rhythm team too and a nice sounding recording from one of the best festivals in Europe. I didn’t ever hear this line up but I did get to hear Joe, George and Al play trio outside in the pouring rain in Boston either just before or just after this gig. That was a weird summer in Boston…the week before I’d fallen asleep listening to Blood Ulmer play an outdoors gig and woken up with sun burn. The day Joe’s trio played it was like being in a tropical monsoon. I guess that’s just Boston for you.

roy haynes and joe henerson boots in one day - I can’t imagine anything better. I never got to see Joe so this is a real treat for me - thank you. some of the stuff he does with al foster (like state of the tenor) is some of my favorite work by either of them. where did you see him outside in Boston? at the Hatch Shell during on the summer concerts? I can’t figure out where else they have outdoor shows. must have been great though.

Very nice! It’s too bad I missed Joe live.
Okay, it wasn’t too hard to make the set list since this is kind of a classic Joe Henderson set of that particular time. But I had to look up the names of two tracks I knew (but not the names by heart) which took me five minutes. If you want to save that time, here’s the list.
1. Recordame
2. Ask Me Now
3. Beatrice
4.You Know I Care
5. Y Ya La Quiero
6. Mode For Joe
Thanks a lot for the recording!

Almost correct Tobias m8, I think your tracks might have become disordered upon download.
The tracklisting is actually as follows:
1. Mode For Joe (8:45)
2. Recorda Me (11:00)
3. Ask Me Now (15:45)
4. Beatrice (12:01)
5. You Know I Care (10:30)
6. Y Todavia La Quiero (18:46)
Thanks for the share blogmeister! Joe Henderson is always gladly welcome.
